At MMSC there is a slipway for easy launching and ample room on the
jetty for mooring. This makes the sailing even more enjoyable as you don't have
to start the race wet, especially on those cold winter mornings. |
Melton Mowbray Sailing Club was formed in 1970 to provide sailing
on a lake in a disused quarry. Considerable development has taken place since
then and the club stands as it it today. The area now forms a water park with
attractively landscaped banks surrounding 45 acres of pleasant sailing water.
Set in a nature reserve, Frisby Water Park is home to many species of wildlife,
reports suggest that a family of otters may be living nearby. The present Clubhouse was purpose built in 1986 and housed many modern facilities. The clubhouse is home to many social gatherings throughout the year. We occasionally have talks by distinguished sailors. The one by Steve Cockerill was a great success. Each year we run a trip to the boat show which has proved very popular. There is a strong social aspect to the club and we are a very close knit community.
